Review

True Launch Bar is the paid version of Free Launch Bar, which is the replacement for the standard Quick Launch bar. This version includes all the features of Free Launch Bar plus many other useful ones including additional plug-ins (Mail Monitor, Wireless Monitor, Weather Forecast etc.), skins and custom colors, overlay images for menus, context menus, among many others. With True Launch Bar you can transform your Quick Launch bar into a flexible shortcut organizer with network monitor, integrated RSS reader, and many other tools. Like in the free version you can group your shortcuts in customizable menus, assigned hotkeys, and now also password protect them. It also has the ability to switch toolbars based on the currently active application automatically. The user interface is really nice and intuitive, with the options organized by a category to make it easier to operate. In this new version (4.4) the developers have fixed some bugs present in the previous versions and include some new ones, for example, now you can activate the toolbar with a hotkey or even change the toolbar buttons font. If you are looking for a comprehensive application to organize your shortcuts that tightly integrates with Windows, True Launch Bar is perfect for you. It supports 98/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista.
Advantages
  • Easy use.
  • Nice user interface.
  • Fully customizable.
  • Great variety of options.
Disadvantages
  • A little bit expensive.

Amazing! At a glance my Quick Launch bar (in Windows Vista) looks much the same as it did before I installed True Launch Bar, but that unassuming appearance says nothing of the confusion of desktop icons that I'd cleared out and organized into an intuitively arranged system of menus that are revealed through hovering my mouse over any of those Quick Launch icons on my taskbar. I've tried or looked at quite a range of Windows program launchers, and True Launch Bar appears to me to be by far the best.

Yes, there are Windwos program launchers that look superficially just as good, BUT the ones that I've seen all consume considerable memory / resources, whereas True Launch Bar and also its free version consume very little resource because it uses the native Quick Launch bar system, just adding almost unbelievable functionality and configurability to it. It can be used as a replacement for the Start button, though I personally see no point in doing that. Rather, one can have different things in the two menu systems.

Fully recommended!
